Hello 2017! You’re starting off great!

When it comes to blogging and newsletters, 2016 was a terrible year. When it comes to everything else, it was really quite remarkable. Our Written Lives published 11 new books in 2016, and White Hart Publications published 1 new book.

Facing Myself by Rachael Kathleen HartmanStealth Journey by Naomi HavensLife is Busy!

In 2016, I finished writing and publishing my third book, my personal story, Facing Myself: An Introspective Look at Cosmetic Surgery. I taught 4 “Writing and Publishing Your First Book” classes in three different states, and attended the Christian Product Expo in Nashville as an author to promote two of my books.

In September, I accepted a job offer and moved to San Antonio, Texas. In addition to running Our Written Lives, I am now working full-time in the Air Force Wounded Warrior Program. Life is busy, but it’s not too busy to keep me from what I love doing the most: helping people share their stories.

But Not Too Busy for New Books!

2017 is starting off with a kick with the newest OWL book, Stealth Journey: An Uncommon Fight Against Cancer, Fear, Tradition, and Pharmaceuticals, by Naomi Havens. Naomi shares her real-life journey of surviving cancer by pursuing the uncommon natural path, and saying no to chemotherapy and radiation. Learn more at www.victoryhaven.org.

In April, Laura Aranda’s novel, Pushing Back the Darkness, will captivate readers as Claire and her boyfriend Cole begin a thrilling quest to stop human trafficking and save Morgan Ann, a foster child kidnapped by foreigners.

Emra Smith, author of Your Story Matters, will be releasing her second book in 2017. She has been trailblazing the country, spreading the Hope of Christ through her Hope Walk and Hope Dolls, as well as empowering women to share their stories. Her new book will feature short stories of women who have survived various life circumstances and moved forward in victory. Learn more at www.emrasmith.com.

How can I help you write and publish your first book in 2017?

NEW BOOK: Healing Letters: A 140-Day Journey of Healthy Living

Healing Letters

A 140 Day Journey of Healthy Living. Each day provides an inspirational quote, scripture and a short prayer “letter” to God. Written specifically for people with an on-going illness or health concern. Provides some educational information and tips for healthy living.

After sharing her personal testimony in her first book, Angel: The True Story of an Undeserved Chance, Angelena Cortello wrote Healing Letters to encourage other people living with a chronic illness. Read Day 1’s Letter . . .

ALPHA,

Today I can and will begin again. It is high time to recommit some areas of my life to You and to the purpose You have called me to fulfill. You are the beginning. I want to begin again. Sometimes taking that first unknown step is the hardest leap of faith, but I have to start somewhere. Why not now? Why not with You? I refuse to allow myself to stick with what is unhealthy for me and familiar to me, out of fear of facing something new because it is uncomfortable or out of my comfort zone. When I face my fears, it builds my self-esteem. I can do anything with You in my life. I choose to make the first step with motivation and determination. The first step to changing for the better has to include You. Love, Your Child

A Life Course of Miracles and Prayer

Prayer and Healing, Supernatural Events in Ordinary Lives

A Life Course of Miracles and PrayerThroughout the years, my aunt talked to me about little stories of prayer and healing that could only be explained as miracles from God. I was able to convince her to record her thoughts so that others could learn about the amazing things that have happened during her life. The fact that God allows ordinary people to see phenomenal miracles is something that should be shared, not only in our families, but also with everyone we encounter.

Join me as I share stories of miracles: split second interventions from near fatal car crashes, gallstone pain, migraines, a heart attack, and permanent paralysis. Read the words of hope spoken at just the right time, along with visions from heaven. These are the ways God chooses to work in ordinary lives.

Will I Survive? The Purpose and Process in Life

Survive Life. God has a purpose for everything you’re facing.

Will-I-Survive-cover-picWill I survive? If you’ve lived any time at all, the question is there, consciously or subconsciously. Why is so much bad happening to me? Where is God in all the chaos? The purpose of this book is to help you survive life’s storms. With clarity, comes peace and comfort, together with the courage and strength to continue becoming who you were meant to be. This is a practical book that will meet you where you live, in everyday life, and in everyday situations.

As I worked through my own personal crisis, the Lord continued to give me insight into how He uses hardship to make me into what He would have me to be. Journey with me from the wheat field to the oven as I share my insight by drawing a parallel between the bread-making process, and the development of the Body of Christ.

Keeping the process in mind will help you see the bigger and broader picture of life in the midst of crisis. As you read, you will find yourself somewhere in these pages, somewhere in the process. The light of revelation will come and pierce the dark clouds surrounding your understanding of the purpose and process of life.

New Book: Patterns of Light, Poems by JS Hartman

I want to share a poem with you from the next OWL of Hope book (it’s at the bottom this message). The book is called Patterns of Light: Poetry by J.S. Hartman. It’s my honor to work with my dad on this book.

The book features 100 of his most loved poems and folk songs including As Angels Watched, Stop that Tot!, and Everyday is Christmas. He wrote many of the poems during his time as an Army Chaplain, though he began writing poems when he was 17 years old and is still writing poems today.

The cover of the book features a picture of one of his beautiful stained glass arrangements. The book also features several useable original stained glass patterns he designed.

Many of the poems minister to people experiencing grief. His newest poem I’m Here! is dedicated to his mother who passed away with Alzheimer’s disease in 2002.

We would like to share one of the poems with you now and we hope you enjoy it.

TODAY

“Things must get better than they are!”
These words are often said.
We’re wishing for next year to come.
Next year we might be dead!

Ironic as these future dreams
We cast away today,
And then remember “Yesterdays”
And wish it were that way.

It’s nice to look for better things,
To wish upon a star,
But don’t you think some things are nice
Just the way they are?

Let’s live each day and thank God for
Whatever comes our way.
The storm clouds or the bright sunshine
Are ours for just today!

To truly live this present hour
Will give us grace to say:
“Today’s my great tomorrow
And my glorious yesterday!”

El Arbolito = The Tiniest Tree

elarbolito

I’m happy to report that the Spanish translation is complete! Thanks to a great team of volunteers who helped me make sure everything was top notch!

The Spanish translation went through several revisions. It was a much longer process than I anticipated, but having a quality product is the most important thing. After the initial translation, three Spanish speakers (one university professor and two native speakers), went through the entire story at least five times.

I am so grateful for Ruben Barerra, Steve Rogge, and Holvin and Marilyn Galindo who spent hours of their time volunteering to make The Tiniest Tree a bilingual book. I am looking forward to the day I will be able to pay translators and editors to help perfect bilingual books. For this project, each volunteer will receive their own copy of The Tiniest Tree, El Arbolito.

I can not express how grateful I am for their hard work. I’m looking forward to the future and producing more Spanish/English literature!
